La guerre prend une tournure inquiétante, Après son diplôme à l'université, Noé est appelé à accomplir son devoir en intégrant l’armée. Il doit laisser derrière lui Adèle, sa fiancée, restée dans leur ville natale. Il confie ses pensées et ses sentiments sur sa vision de la vie en écrivant des lettres à Adèle. Tourmenté par son capitaine et la discipline militaire, il songe à la liberté, aux antipodes de la dure réalité de la guerre. Il finit par quitter Adèle pour ne pas lui imposer de vivre dans une attente sans fin, lui-même ne croyant plus à son propre retour.

Ce film est la suite de "Listen to the Voices of the Sea" (2019) ma première œuvre vidéo, basée sur le journal intime d'un pilote kamikaze japonais, Hachiro Sasaki. Kamikaze signifie "vent de Dieu" en japonais. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des pilotes japonais ont attaqué des porte-aéronefs et des vaisseaux de l'armée américaine en crashant leurs avions. Pour la réalisation du deuxième projet, j'ai transcrit une partie du journal intime d'un autre soldat kamikaze du sud du Japon, Norimitsu Takushima. En mettant à sa place Noé Teissier, un personnage fictif français, cette traduction s’inscrit dans un contexte contemporain, culturellement et géographiquement plus étendu, pour que ses pensées et la réalité de sa vie puissent être saisies. Le film reflète les rapports à la vie, à la mort, à l'amour, en rendant compte des expériences universelles partagées par tout soldat.

The war has taken a worrying turn. After graduating from a university, Noé is called upon to fulfill his duty by joining the military; forcing him to leave Adèle, his fiancée staying in their hometown. Tormented by his Captain and military discipline whilst training at the airbase, Noé thinks of freedom in the harsh reality of the war. He confides his thoughts and feelings on his vision of life through letters to Adèle. He ends up leaving Adèle attempting to spare her from living in endless waiting - no longer believing in his own return.

This film is a sequel to “Listen to the Voices of the Sea” (2019) the first work in art video, based on a diary of a Japanese kamikaze pilot, Hachiro Sasaki. Kamikaze means wind of God in Japanese. During WW2 Japanese pilots attacked American aircraft carriers and army ships by dive-bombing their airplanes. For the realization of the second project, I transcribed a part of the diary of another kamikaze soldier from southern Japan, Norimitsu Takushima. By putting in his place a fictional French character, Noé Teissier, this translation sits in a broader contemporary context. The film ultimately reflects relationships to life, to death, to love speaking towards the universal experiences of any soldier.
