Before it happens

After the accident of Chernobyl in 1986, a similar tragedy occurred in Fukushima in 2011. History repeats itself. At the time, I was only a Japanese at my art university in a small town of Southern France. People asked me many questions about this. I needed to answer as a Japanese. As time passed by, people became less and less interested. Some people told me it could not happen here as there wouldn't any natural disasters. This kind of reaction made me angry. At the same time, I had wondered how people in Fukushima lived by watching news from the Internet and media about Fukushima. I imagined that was how the landscape was.
This thought was what led me to carry out this project. I visited 13 villages of nuclear power plants in France such as Fessenheim, Cattenom, Nogent-sur-Seine, Cruas, Tricastin, Golfech, Gravelines, Paluel, Penly et Dampierre-en-Burly. The images and the texts portray these specific villages. It could be comparable in other countries.
I turned my phrasing indirectly because it is the way locals live around this environment. They consciously know there is a danger but they do not acknowledge it.
